Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I wish to continue the progress that has been accomplished in the last term.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
I listen to the issues and make decisions on the issues and not on emotion.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
1.  Budget  2.  legacy costs/police and fire services  3.  maintaining a first class park and recreation department especially for our senior and child programs.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
I always believe that we cannot spend what we don’t have.  Balance the budget first.  The legacy costs will be addressed during contract negotiations in the near future.  We must continue to have exceptionally service in police and fire for our residents.    Lastly, we must always provide safe roads for our residents.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
Cut where necessary, demand greater efficiency.  We have to pay attention to the details and not just talk about it.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
We provide a dashboard that shows all expenditures. On the internet.  Also, for planning issues, we over-notice residents on any zoning or development issues
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
I am a self funded candidate and I seek no funding or endorsements for my campaign.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I am a common sense conservative.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
I am not an activist but I have served on the Macomb County Executive Committee and have been a precinct delegate and a state convention delegate for many years.
What is your position on Obamacare?
I favor the decision made by the US Supreme Court allowing for Congress to create a system of health care that will work for the American people.  The changes that have been implemented will probably not be undone despite what some people believe, but they may be changed.  The 21 different taxes in the ACA need to be changed or eliminated by the new Congress.  America can not afford tax hikes, but America can not afford health care to continue the way it has.
What is your position on abortion?
I am pro life and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
General question, general answer, I am in favor.
What is your position on public sector unions?
The discrepancy rates of pay and pension needs to be equitable with private industry.  Unions are meant to speak for employees, not to create a disparity.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Job creation and image improvement.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
I am not adverse to a casino that can provide jobs and capital to the county.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I would prefer it to be built with private dollars.  The problem seems to be the location of a second span.  The funding seems to be available.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
Put it to a vote.  I do not use the DIA or the Zoo personally, mainly because of my schedule.  There is a place in society for funding of the arts.  If there is a benefit to the citizens of Macomb then allow the tax to be put to a vote.  I would not vote in favor if asked as a public official.
