Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I am running for Shelby Township Trustee because I want to bring honesty, integrity and respect back to the board. When elected, I will educate myself on all issues and make decisions based on what is right for the residents and the businesses of Shelby Township.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
  • I have financial experience from managing funds for my Knights of Columbus finances for 9 years, where we have audits every 6 months and have never had any issues.
  • I work for General Motors where I am constantly striving to drive down cost by using Synchronous Techniques to streamline and automate processes. This allows people to be more accurate by using documented and repeatable processes which will use less time and save money
  • I am a people person who cares about our Township.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
  1. Police & Fire Pension underfunding
  2. 41A District court
  3. Housing values
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
  1. The police and fire pension problem must be looked into immediately. My pension plan from GM was discontinued but they put into place a 401k matching plan that is working very well for us now and I believe that we can institute something along this for the future. I will not touch the current pensions in place and I maintain that they MUST be fully funded.
  2. Moving the court to Macomb is a safety issue as our police could beuto 3.5 miles out of the Township and this will increase their response times to calls. If we get rid of the court the funding for the current legacy pension costs will need to come from the general fund and we cannot afford that. The court should not be a revenue maker but if we were to get some of the parole revenue out here, that would help as well.
  3. To date housing values are determined not just by sales but also by those homes that have gone into foreclosure. Foreclosed homes should not affect current
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
I am a professional with GM, where a large part of my job is to automate and streamline current processes, which leads to less errors and lower costs. I can help the township to do more with the same employees, thus saving taxpayers’ dollars. I cannot nor can anyone guarantee lower taxes. I promise to make every effort to use what we have much more effectively allowing us to do more with what we are given.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
When I am elected everything I do will be transparent. I will be available to the public and they will have the ability to know why I voted the way I did. I will be the voice of the people and businesses in Shelby. My intent will be to serve Shelby as a whole not the sacred few.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
I have been endorsed by the Shelby Twp Police Officers Association

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I am running as a Conservative Reagan Republican because I believe in:

  • Lower Taxes as well as a flat tax
  • Smaller government
  • Increasing the public sector jobs
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
  • I am a member of the RCMNC and have done phone polling for the MCRP as well.
  • I was a MCRP in the past but find that the RCNMC is more in line with my beliefs at this time.
What is your position on Obamacare?
  • It must be repealed. This legislation was rammed down the public’s throat as Healthcare and it was finally revealed by the Supreme Court for what it was, a TAX.
What is your position on abortion?
I believe in the sanctity of life but I also believe that the right of the woman must not be overlooked. In the end I am not for abortion as a form birth control. Education is the answer to this question.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
I believe in the 2nd amendment and think that anybody who wants to purchase a weapon should ALWAYS have that right.
What is your position on public sector unions?

I believe that the unions have a place but I also believe in a right to work state. I am not for forcing anybody to join a union to get a job. That is not much different the forcing someone to move to Warren to work at the GM Tech Center.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
  • Housing values must stabilize and increase. This helps the home owners by increasing their selling value and increase the counties revenue as well
  • We must make sure we are spending our money very wisely on needs and not wants. I do believe that the board is doing a very good job of watching where our funds end up.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
No. We have enough. Casinos bring in traffic and that means more road revenue will be needed as well as more police presence. We currently do not have the funds for either increase
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I am for the new bridge if the state does not have to come up with any money. The bridge would definitely alleviate any traffic for manufacturing plants that MUST keep a lifeline open at all cost. This should be a private venture.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
I am definitely against these. I think that these should be funded with private funds not taxes.  These organizations are supposed to get out there and solicit funds to keep them going, that is part of their job function.
