Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I feel that Macomb County is at a cross roads. More than ever, we need a County Commissioner with some toughness. One who will give the Board a strong voice when dealing with the Executive Branch. We in the County are also in dire need of new and better jobs, and I’ll make this a priority.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
As a recent college graduate, I have the most recent look at what employers desire when they look at investing in an area. The skills I learned while obtaining my Business Management  degree will be beneficial to luring business.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
My top 3 are: Joint Use at Selfridge, proper utilization of County funds, and I’m very concerned about new tax proposals.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
I want to fight any and all new cuts proposed at Selfridge. I’d like to investigate the County getting a University, since investors want to invest in areas with an educated populace. As well as look at some tax incentives for businesses in the County, and those looking for a new area to locate.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
I will propose a balanced budget amendment for the County if one does not exist. I’ll suggest nixing the current County Charter in order to give the Board of Commissioners more say on budget issues. I’ll be a firm backer of continuing the appeals of Judge Foster’s decision regarding the powers of the Executive when it comes to creating contracts. I will be a vocal opponent of new millages for private entities. If there’s a way to reduce the salaries of those in the Executive Dept., I’ll find it and propose it.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
I feel that the County Commission Board meetings need to be televised. I also feel that members of the Board of Commissioners should be welcomed into all departments within the County, have a direct tour with the Department head, and have all their questions answered by the Department head. This includes the County Coroner.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
As stated, I’ve been endorsed by the Current Commissioner Roland Fraschetti. I also have the endorsement of the Macomb County Taxpayers Association.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I’ve always been strongly Republican. I believe in personal responsibility; the end of class warfare, and a strong national defense.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
I’ve worked on campaigns for candidates ever since I was a kid. I was elected Precinct Delegate in 2006, and was sent to the State Convention. I also assisted in the DeVos for Governor Phone Bank here in Harrison.
What is your position on Obamacare?
For repeal except when it comes to allowing children to stay on their parent’s healthcare plan. Needs to be replaced by a plan that creates additional market competition.
What is your position on abortion?
Totally against abortion unless the mother’s life is in real peril.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
Pro-gun ownership for those who are not convicted felons, or mentally ill. I’m for allowing assault weapon ownership. For allowing carrying of handguns in most places. I’d even like to see concealed weapons permits eliminated, so all law abiding gun owners are free to carry without a pointless class, which is really a money making scheme.
What is your position on public sector unions?
I feel that it should be law that public sector employee pay and benefits should mirror the average in the private sector. So they can get together and bargain; just not for pay or benefit increases that outpace the private sector.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Overreaching County Executive power; and job creation.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
I think it would be a bad idea.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I’d only support it if there was an amendment that stated “no state funds shall ever be used for this project.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
Against because all these taxes start to add up, and make a significant impact on the wallet. One of the greatest concerns in my mind are people or groups who try and make it sound like it’s just a few extra bucks. These taxes set a precedent for future, similar taxes. To put it another way: it opens the door. Private entities should ALWAYS be self-sustaining, and never should seek a dime of public tax money.
