Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I think that the house needs the pragmatic level headedness of an engineer. I also believe that our school system needs a real make-over. And we need to review a number  of expenditure laws. If one is broke, then one should refrain from using the credit card.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
At the onset of any project, an engineer is asked;” What will this do? How will this improve the bottom line? How much time will this require? How much will it cost?  What are the ramifications should this fail?”  The same set of criteria should be applied to all things coming out of the house.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
Schools, industry, taxes.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
I will look for methods and ways to improve the school system. I will seek out methods to attract more industries. I will attempt to keep taxes at the levels that they are currently, if they cannot be lowered.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
If there are areas within the government that are duplications, or under utilization, I will seek to make corrections. If a position is a part-time position, I would like to see the costs to be reflective of the time involved. Even if it is my own position.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
With the exception of state, and national security, I cannot see any reason for secrecy or ‘back-room’ deals. I realize that the majority of the citizens do/will not read all of the information coming out of the House, but I believe that it should be available on line at all times- available to everyone on demand.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
If so, please list. I have not actively sought endorsement or support from any group. I really wish to remain, as much as possible, un-beholding to any special interest group, other than the people of my district, and those of the state of Michigan.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
The Republican Party’s beliefs are closest to those that are my own.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
I have been a precinct Delegate for the last three Terms.
What is your position on Obamacare?
I do not believe that the Federal Government has the Constitutional authority to mandate this program.
What is your position on abortion?
Personally, For the most part, I do not agree with the validity of abortion-on-demand, as a means of birth-control. However, there are reasonable, legitimate exceptions .
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment. Without it we are in trouble.
What is your position on public sector unions?
Sorry, but I do not believe that folks who dine at the public table should also be able to demand the right of choosing what goes on the menu.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Personal incomes (employment) and Taxation.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
No, I really do not think that there is a need for casinos in Macomb county. Casinos are a larger financial liability than they are a profit. The public costs involved far outweigh the taxes, and the few jobs that are created. And so far as I can see, there is really no added ‘pride-value added to the city-host, or its citizens.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
Now there is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, it is touted to be a “No cost” addition to the city of Detroit. But I see all of the infra-structure as a real cost to the taxpayers of the entire state. It would pour millions of dollars into the economy, in the form of wages, and would be a taxable property.  But other than the speed-up of traffic crossing the Ambassador bridge, and the separation of commercial and passenger traffic, I do not see a desperate need.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
I like the arts, I like the zoo. The zoo is customer friendly. The DIA is customer exclusive. I really cannot bring myself to willingly pay for something that I cannot utilize. There is little to no parking at the DIA, and what there is, it is frightfully expensive, and unfriendly. The DIA is not an attractive place for a family outing.  Inside, yes! Getting to, or getting from—NO!   The zoo: Now that the zoo has passed out of the ownership hands of the city of Detroit, and into the management of a more responsible group, I would be more inclined to support the zoo.
