Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I want to restore the voice of the resident majority back to the Board of Trustees in Shelby Township.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
I am retired and this will become my full time job.  I have worked in the private sector for over 40 years, with increasing levels of responsibility. I have managed many people and large budgets, and delivered on time and under budget.  I have lived in Shelby for more than 34 years, and am a demonstrated public servant and volunteer.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
  1. Restore the voice of the Resident Majority, by eliminating special interest influence from the board room.
  2. Work to refocus the new board to ensure that all of the reasons we moved to Shelby are supported by the Township government.
  3. Restore the resident’s faith in its local government.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
  1. Demonstrate by actions that the residents are the reason the Board exists.
  2. Work to ensure the schools, police, fire, recreation, and local businesses are focal points for Board attention.
  3. Make the Board room a friendly environment to speak in without the intimidation currently demonstrated.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
Without having seen the books, I would first study the revenue and expenditures.  From here it becomes a matter of balancing the budget with the needs of the residents, and the infrastructure needed to meet those needs.  Anything viewed as excessive or un-necessary would be reduced and/or eliminated.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
Perform as a public servant, and never forget why you were elected.  Refuse to bow to special interests groups, and never compromise your integrity.  Decisions made are for the benefit of the majority, not the Board or special interests.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I want lower taxes and smaller government.  Less government in the private sector will lead to more business opportunities, higher employment, increased revenues, and prosperity for the Township.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
I joined the RCNMC about a year ago.  Since then, I have been pursuing my election to office.
What is your position on Obamacare?
I support the concept, but not in its current form.  It is not a health care bill, but a tax on the citizens.  If implemented, it will have dramatic effects on the economy, and our future.
What is your position on abortion?
I am Catholic and Pro-Life.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
I am a member of the NRA, and support the right to keep and bear arms.
What is your position on public sector unions?
I support the right of the unions to organize and survive.  I do not support their right to strike at the risk of public safety.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Deteriorating roads.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
Yes, if they are built and operated without public funds.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I would support construction of a new bridge, funded without public money.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
Without direct accountability of the funds, I would not support these special millages.
