Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I am running for the Trustee office because I believe that with my 30 years of budgeting and finance experience that I can help streamline that process.  In addition, I want to restore the trust of the residents to the board.  I am not convinced that the board has listened to the residents but have acted more to help special interest groups.  I would like to put an end to that.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
I have over 30 years experience in accounting and finance.  I can communicate and can relate well with all types of people.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
  1. Lower revenues due to lower property values and lower state sharing
  2. Under funded legacy cost of our retired employees and correcting future pension benefits
  3. Attracting business and residents and being a friendly place to live and do business
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
  1. I would like to share with other communities a grant writer to allow Shelby Township the opportunity to participate in more grants.
  2. I have a program that I would like to implement to attract more residents and businesses to occupy bank owned properties and empty buildings
  3. I would like to participate in a committee to negotiate with the unions to fix our legacy problem.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
I am a comptroller in a manufacturing business and would run the government more like a business.  When revenues are down, we will have to cut expenses.  When Revenues increase, we need to build back our reserve funds so that we can tolerate the minor fluctuations.  I would like to participate in a program to get more jobs into Shelby Township.  I would also like to recommend that Shelby businesses that are bidding on contract be given additional consideration.  They still have to be competitive, but if they are in the running, the fact that they have a business in Shelby Twp should mean something when bidding on Shelby Twp contracts.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
I would like to have consistent hours to allow people to meet with me.  I would also like to publish monthly/quarterly financial statements on the website and in our board meetings.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
I am endorsed by Save our Shelby.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I am conservative and believe we should not spend more than we budget for.  I do not believe in playing games but being honest and trustworthy.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
I have been involved with RCNMC for several years.
What is your position on Obamacare?
It should be repealed.  I do not believe it is for the peoples best interest to keep it.
What is your position on abortion?
I believe in the right to live and therefore do not believe in abortion.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
I believe people have the right to free speech.
What is your position on public sector unions?
At one point they may have been useful.  Now they collect peoples dues and use it for political reasons.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
The same as our township.  Increasing the jobs so that property values and revenues are increased.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
Casinos would bring jobs.  I am in favor if we can find the right location.  I also believe that we need more education on gambling so people do not lose their life savings.  No tax dollars should be spent on building the casinos.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I believe we should have an additional bridge.  We have two bridges in Port Huron, why would we not have 2 bridges in Detroit?  I am not sure I have enough information to decide on this issue, but based on what I know today, if private industry wants to build the bridge, the state should get out of the way and let them build it.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
The tax is to help the DIA and Zoo is wrong.  Yes, those institutions help with our schooling and social well being, but I should not be taxed to help them exist.
