Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
To provide conservative and responsive representation to the residents in District 1
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
As former Council Vice President, Council President and Mayor Pro Tem for the city of Warren, I have experience with all aspects of the job at hand, prioritizing budget, ordinance and contract review. I will be able to help close the gap of communication between City and County Government. In addition, my personal life has been filed with many different life experiences: marriage, parenthood, divorce, single parenthood, senior citizen parents, home ownership, job demands, job loss, and remarriage.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
Responsive government, Conservative spending, stabilizing/building the community.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
Regular attendance, respond to residents concerns.  Review of county practices to ensure expense justifies the benefit of a program. Prioritize budget spending to avoid scare tactic tax increase for example. I believe people live where they feel safe, have good schools and reliable services.  When residential base builds and remain strong businesses invest.  By nurturing the three S’s (Safety, Schools, Services) the community base grows, creating jobs and stabilizing local tax bases.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
With the new form of County Government that has been adopted, it is particularly important that those who are elected keep a strict eye on the government function.  The purpose of the restructuring was to reduce costs.  We cannot allow this step to be mishandled and made into more appointees, less control on behalf of the voters and ultimately end up costing the same or more as before.  In addition, I would support consolidation where there are duplications of services.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
Televise meetings, participate more in city functions, to build relationships further, request that attendance records be published and review the ethics ordinance to see where additional items could be added to aid in transparency.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
I do not believe that government is responsible for every aspect of human life. I believe in being fiscally responsible and Christian values.
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
As an elected official in the city of Warren for 8 years I have always represented a conservative view on spending and I have attended Lincoln Day Dinners and some 12th District meetings.
What is your position on Obamacare?
I believe it should be repealed. Its powers are too over reaching and go beyond the scope of healthcare.
What is your position on abortion?
I personally have not and could not have an abortion.  However, I believe this is a religious issue and one that should not be legislated.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
I fully support the right to keep and bear arms, without interference.
What is your position on public sector unions?
My experience with public sector unions over the past 8 years has been very positive. They have given concessions and negotiated in good faith.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Need to stabilize tax base and oversight of the new style of government.
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
It is not something the county itself should invest in, but would not be opposed to an entity that wants to make the investment here for such a purpose.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I believe the private sector has handled the existing bridge well. I do not feel that government needs to invest in a duplication of what has already been done.
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
I support voters being involved in decision making whenever feasible, so I agree with taking the vote to the people.  Personally, I am not convinced there is enough transparency in the authorities that will handle the finances to ensure voters will get what they pay for.
