Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
I have found interest in politics for many years.   And with following politics each year, I’m sick of our elected officials promising sidewalks, roads, improved water, and eight years later nothing has been done!   As citizens we call the Township, township says it’s a county issue, county then says it’s a township issue.   Next, the twp says there’s no money and they’ll put a committee together, but we have a $29 million dollar general fund surplus?  Finally, my district was redrawn to cover most of Macomb Twp without announcement which I found out days before the filing deadline.  I found this interesting and tried to contact our current commissioner Sabatini and never heard back, upon making some calls I found out he was the nephew of the Macomb Drain Commissioner and his sister was running for District 9……enough was enough I decided I would run.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
I have no family relationship with current elected officials, the new Charter for Macomb was created for many factors one is “an independent ethics board that will serve as a watchdog against cronyism and corruption” I have a good life right with the success of our family invention My Friendship Bracelet Maker (www.myfbm.com), in three years we have accomplished worldwide distribution of our craft line, and made a American Dream Reality.  I understand what it will take for Macomb to reinvent Manufacturing to create jobs and infrastructure to support development.  I rely on the skills god gave me to achieve goals, not my last name and the people I know in office.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
Walking the neighborhoods its simple, theirs actually a fourth.

  1. Sidewalks-  eight years ago my daughter was 5 years old and couldn’t walk a ¼ to subway, today she still cant and she’s 13.
  2. Roads-  Residential and main.  Our neighborhood roads are sinking, cracking, shifting, then our main roads are only 2 lanes.  Township blames bad roads on settling, says it’s a county issue, and vice versa!
  3. Water Pressure-  So our roads are “Settling” but in reality the poor installation of water and sewer lines has created the issues.  Anyone north of 23 mile road experiences water problems and for 6 years we have been told a booster station needs to be put in at 23 mile to accommodate our growth.  Still no plan, from the Drain Commissioner but he continues to approve new developments  in this area, we need a plan, budget, and a solution!

The Township claims to have a $29 million General Fund Surplus to date?  Are the saving it for a rainy day fund?   We have a surplus because unlike surrounding communities they don’t fix anything, they pass the buck, they hire only family.   This needs to end and put people in office like myself that care about Macomb Township and the county, not just the money.

What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
Accountability, Leadership, Solutions, and most importantly a Vision
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
Accountability and knowledge.   To understand the decisions made now will effect the community now and longterm.  To be effective we must be efficient.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
This is such an overused word.”.Transparency”.   Every year politicians use this as a grand stand, transparency should be changed to accountability, then we’ll get someplace.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
Interesting question,  everyone knows that elected officials only endorse incumbents.

RCNMC Review

Mr. Karwowicz stated that “my district was redrawn to cover most of Macomb Twp without announcement which I found out days before the filing deadline.”  All political districts are redrawn every ten years after the U.S. Census is completed.  This is done to adjust for population shifts.  The most recent re-districting that set the current boundaries was completed by June 2011.  The RCNMC’s Silla Tomasi submitted a map for consideration in this re-districting so we can attest to the timelines for when re-districting was completed.

Party Issues

Why are you a running as a Republican?
Ronald Reagan was my Hero!  I am a Conservative Republican that supports the Tea Party, I support the Principles of the Catholic Church, and I firmly believe the “Silent Majority” has begun to speak!
What prior involvement have you had in the Republican Party or Conservative organizations?
Joined in 2006.
What is your position on Obamacare?
Really?    Completely against!
What is your position on abortion?
Do Not Support, I’m Catholic.
What is your position on the 2nd Amendment?
Support 100%
What is your position on public sector unions?
There are good workers that care, and others that no more on how not to work.  Its like a business, to be effective you need to be efficient.  Sometimes I look at the solution as not the taxpayers and politicians, but rather the Unions Leadership taking accountability for these abusers of the principles of the union.   Once this happens public trust will return, and support will follow.

State/County/Local Issues

What are the two biggest issues you feel Macomb County is facing today?
Reinventing our manufacturing,  and ending corruption within elected offices
Do you think Macomb County should have casinos?
I would need more details and look into the matter before making that decision, I would like to see how much actually makes it back to county once monies go to Lansing.
What is your position on the Ambassador bridge project?
I believe we need a second point of entry, being a manufacturer and visiting Canada it’s a growing country that keeps producing more and more items
What is your position on special millages like the DIA or Zoo millages?
NO on DIA, $ 21 million yearly for ten years from the three counties REALLY?   The Zoo is something I would like to look into the details before commenting.
