Campaign Issues

Why are you running for this office?
Since attending all of Bruce Township’s board meetings since 2008, I felt there was too much disrespect among the board members and toward the residents.  I want to bring back the professionalism the residents deserve.
What skillsets and real life experience do you have that makes you the best candidate for the role?
I have 29 years experience as an office supervisor and accounting manager in both corporate and government sectors.  After knocking on the doors of over 2500 residents and talking with the people, I feel I know what they want in leadership.
What are the top three issues you are concerned with for your district/municipality?
Currently, Bruce Township is faced with an enormous sewer debit, which the development of our business district should help resolve.  Taxes are also a concern.  Many residents experienced tax increases while the housing market plummeted and feel more should be done to hold down spending. Communication with ours residents is essential.  They need to be able to look to their elected officials for information and guidance when issues arise in the township.
What are the solutions you will bring forward if elected?
I don’t necessarily have the solutions as I do the ideas.  I would look into the resources of our township to see what can be done to make the business district more attractive to invest in.  I would evaluate our budget and look for potential savings.  My commitment is to remain fiscally response to the taxpayers.  Being open to suggestions and criticisms will allow Bruce Township to be a community of the people.
What specific measures will you take to maintain low taxes and less expensive, limited government?
As I previously stated, I would first evaluate our current budget.  My goal is to look for wasteful spending.  A suggestion has been to share services with neighboring communities.  Our township spoke loud and clear when they voted down a tax increase for additional police protection.  This is a community of the people and therefore, the elected officials need to listen to what the people want.
If elected, what will you do to better promote transparency in government?
I’ve always believed in open communication.  Residents should always be informed of the activities of the township via our monthly meetings.  Questions and concerns should be resolved without ridicule or intimidation.  At anytime, residents should be able to view revenues and expenses and ask questions.  I feel this information should be posted online for everyone’s convenience.
Have you received any endorsements?  If so, please list.
I didn’t accept any.
